James Evans still GOP Chair -- thank goodness!
On paper, it might seem like a bad thing: James Evans has been re-elected chair of the Salt Lake County Republican Party, and is making it his life's ambition to oust the louse -- hey, there's your campaign slogan! -- in the Mayor's office, that wild man Peter Corroon. But let's diagram that sentence for a moment.
James Evans. The guy who cinched the election for the new Democratic sheriff in town by circulating a training video and claiming it was how Jim Winder really talked? The guy who lost the auditor's office to a Democrat? The guy who almost lost the District Attorney's office? The guy who helped boost Peter Corroon's popularity through personal attacks and accused Rocky Anderson, of all people, of racism? Basically, the guy who helped Democrats have their best year in a long time at the local level? We like his instincts!
Even more important, he's a blogger's dream. Just when you're wishing that some local politician would do something silly, there he is! Please let us know the next time you're up for re-election, James. We want a yard sign.

Lame-o
Former Sheriff Kennard sealed his fate when he was interviewed by the press and claimed he wasn't golfing enough. Kudos to Winder and his talented ad agency Love Communications for capitalizing on the gaff with an excellent radio ad. It left everyone in stitches and Kennard on permanent golf duties. The video was a last minute effort, which didn't have much effect. I'm curious if you even saw the entire video. I did, and it was eye-opening to say the least. It showed the darker side of Winder with timely editing.
The Auditors race was lost simply because of name recognition. Those down-ticket races (Auditor, Treasurer, & Recorder) don't get any press attention and very few voters know their representative. Most if not all of them were very close. Even Jeff Hatch admitted that his last name played a part in getting himself elected. I challenge you to name ANYTHING that the candidates did to make themselves standout during the race, and same for James Evans. When did he even publicly comment on the race???
As for Lohra Miller, she ran a very close race against Yocom 4 years ago and built on that momentum. It was a war of radio ads last year, and in the end the people decided they didn't want to have a Rocky supported, bow-tie wearing, funny named guy as their District Attorney.

Re: You are the Lame-o
You may be right on Jeff Hatch's election, but he worked really hard, and I saw him around a lot more than Gary Ott.
As to your final comment about a "funny named guy" verges on racism. Just because his name is not the Anglo-Saxon/Utah bastardization we have in Utah does not diminish his legal capacity or intelligence. If you based your vote simply on his name, you are the lame one.

Re: You are the Lame-o
But seriously. How many people can say they saw the entire Winder video? The press didn't show hardly anything of the 5 minute video. It was simply snippets of training videos he has made over the years. It was laced with profanity, police brutality, and negative comments on other police departments.
I'm not trying to trash Winder, but he did say all of those things and didn't appear to be joking.
